Wooden Furniture: Balancing Durability and Trendiness

written by Natart Juvenile February 21, 2020
Wooden Furniture: Balancing Durability and Trendiness

If you are pregnant, sooner or later your thoughts turn towards decorating the nursery. As parents, we want the best for our children. That includes providing a safe and healthy environment in the room where they spend the most time. With so many products in the market, where do you even start?

Unfortunately, it’s not enough to look for products with a green or eco-friendly label. Those terms are vague and don’t really signify anything about the product. You need to look for specific terms like low-VOC (volatile organic compounds) or zero VOC. For instance, if you’re painting the nursery walls look for low VOC paints.

Wooden nursery furniture

One of the easiest ways to ensure a safe environment for the baby is to choose solid wood furniture. Increasingly families are turning to solid wooden furniture for their homes and for nurseries specifically. In other words, wooden furniture is trendy again.

A common misconception about wooden furniture is that they are heavy. Many people feel that they’re only suitable for those who love dark brown colors or rustic decor. However, brands like Natart offer a wide range of collections in varied styles to suit any decor trend. You can even select different finishes to match the color palette of your choice.

Why should you select wooden furniture?

Strength and durability

Furniture made from solid wood is strong and durable. It is sturdy enough to withstand years of use by children and still look good. Wooden pieces like a crib or dresser will last long which is useful for families with several kids. Even if you have only one child, you can always gift them to friends and family members.

Wooden furniture is also easy to maintain over the years. The occasional polish and stain will keep them looking brand new for decades. They don’t lose value with time and even your grandchildren can use them in the future! At Natart Juvenile, we are committed to quality and excellence in all our nursery furniture collections.

Safe and healthy

Furniture made from synthetic materials often emits toxic gases that are harmful to babies.  Even if the material itself is non-toxic, the furniture may use glues and adhesives that give out harmful gases. Solid wooden furniture does not suffer from any of these drawbacks.

All Natart pieces are made with your child’s health and safety in mind. They all have the Greenguard Gold certification, so you don’t have to worry about the air quality in the nursery. Natart furniture uses low-VOC paint and child-safe materials. Nursery furniture should last longer and be safe at the same time.

Sustainable materials

Solid wood is eco-friendly and more sustainable. They offer higher quality than alternative synthetic materials. As long as the wood is sourced from a sustainable source, this type of furniture is far better for the environment than more disposable options.

More and more parents are concerned about their carbon footprint and the effect of their actions on the environment. Choosing wooden furniture is a step in the right direction. Since it’s also the safest material to use in a nursery, it’s a win-win situation for everyone!

Cost-effective

Some people hesitate to invest in high-quality wooden furniture as it can be expensive. But the key here is to remember it is an investment. You might spend a bit more on furniture initially but it is much more cost-effective in the long term.

Solid wooden furniture will not break easily and you won’t have to replace them multiple times over the next few years. Even if a small part chips or breaks, you can always repair the damage instead of throwing it away.

Many families keep wooden nursery furniture even as their children grow up. You can keep using them by adding other pieces like a nightstand or bookshelves. This is especially true if you invest in convertible cribs that can also become a full-size bed for kids.

Look and feel

There is nothing quite like solid wooden furniture in a home. Thanks to the grain of the wood, no two pieces are identical. Every wooden piece is unique. It can add warmth to any room in the home, especially a nursery.  Wooden furniture can be made from a wide variety of hardwood and softwood trees. It complements any decor style from rustic to modern minimalist.

If you’re designing a classic or elegant nursery, consider the Bella or Belmont collections from Natart. The Cortina and Sevilla collections look right at home in a farmhouse nursery. What if your baby’s room is more modern or minimalist in style? You can take a look at the Leander and Flexx collection. With a range of light and dark finish options, you can select the right pieces for any color palette and decor style.
