Decorating the nursery may be the best part of expecting a new addition to your family. Who doesn’t love a beautifully themed nursery room? Some things make an appearance in many nurseries, no matter the theme or design choices. One such trend is putting your baby’s name on the wall. Or somewhere in the nursery.
Of course, you can easily buy anything you want from stores. But it’s so much more fun if you do it yourself! There are many different options and styles to suit any budget. You can personalize the name to your heart’s content. The best part? Most of these decor items don’t need much effort. Or even art or craft skills. So, here are a few fun ideas to inspire your next creation:
Rustic Hanging Name

This idea works well with any rustic or farmhouse nursery. All you have to do is cut out the letters of your baby’s name from cardboard or foam board. If you have some woodworking skills, you can even carve them. Paint the pieces a solid color or an ombre effect to match the nursery. Once the letters have dried, it’s ready to hang.
Head on outside and look for a big, strong stick. You can paint the twig to match the letters or leave it as is. Hang the letters with some twine and you have a custom designed baby name! You don’t even have to measure anything. Use different lengths of string to pull off that handmade look.
Woodland Flowers Name

This is also a quick DIY and looks good in any nursery with a garden, forest or woodland theme. Collect several twigs in different shapes and sizes the next time you go out for a walk. Use some strong thread to tie them in different letter shapes. You can create the baby’s name or just go with the first letter.
For the extra special touch, add some dried or fresh flowers and leaves. You can also spray paint the twigs in different colors. Put it up with some push pins or thumbtacks.
Colorful Paper Name

What if you don’t have the time to go searching for sticks and branches? You can get creative with household items and things you have lying around. Just as an example, do you have any wrapping or scrapbook paper in different colors? If you don’t have time to cut out letters yourself, you can always buy it would then letters from a craft store.
Simply glue the colorful paper onto the letters. Once again, you can choose colorful paper to match the existing colors in the nursery. Or you can tear the paper into different pieces and create a collage-like effect. Use shiny metallic or glitter paper for some added bling!
Light Up Name
Here’s another easy DIY baby name decor. Grab some wooden letters from the craft store or a leftover craft project. Buy some inexpensive fairy lights and wrap them around the shapes. Stick them on the wall and watch your baby’s name light up the room!
You can go a step further and get different colored lights for each letter. Or use the ones which blink on and off. You can even skip the wooden letters entirely. Just twist the string of lights into the letter shape you want and fix it to the wall. This will look great opposite to the door or crib. Just make sure it doesn’t disturb you or the baby when it’s time for a nap!
Yarn Wrapped Name
If you or a grandparent is the crafty type, you might have some yarn or colorful string lying around. Wrap the letters in the yarn colors you want. You can either use the same color for each letter or different shades of the same color. Alternatively, you can use different colors on each letter for a rainbow or ombre effect.
Attach the letters to the wall or hang it from an embroidery hoop for a crib mobile. Add some extra touches with multicolored fabric squares or framed prints.
Where to Put It?
One of the most common places to put the baby’s name is near the crib. But it doesn’t always work. If the wall decor lights up or makes some noise (if you used bells or something similar), keep it away from the crib.
A great alternative is to hang the name on top of the door or window. Use it as a banner to tell everyone who the nursery belongs to! Use the name as wall decor or a DIY mobile in the crib. You can even create and order custom decals with your baby name online. The sky’s the limit when it comes to creative ways of decorating the nursery. Don’t let budget or lack of skills stop you!
