Setting up a nursery is fun, exciting, and frustrating all at the same time. Parents are often overwhelmed by the sheer choice available but nevertheless, it is fun to select a new crib, dresser, or other furniture for the room. However, it’s not just looks and design you should think about when setting up the nursery.
The safety of each and every product that goes into the nursery is crucial. From the furniture to the paint, you don’t want to inadvertently bring in something that can cause harm to your baby. For example, most paints produce harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs) which can affect your child’s health. So selecting a low VOC paint specifically made for kids’ rooms is important.
Nursery furniture
You may also have similar concerns over the safety of nursery furniture. As parents, you should be looking at good quality furniture that is stable and made with sustainable materials. There are industry standards such as the Greenguard certification that lets you know which products are safe for your baby.
Natart’s goal is to produce safe and high-quality products that parents and babies will love. That’s why we make our furniture with wood and make sure they do not contain harmful chemicals. At Natart, minimizing the impact of manufacturing on our planet is important to us. How do we ensure the safety of our children while also safeguarding the environment for future generations?
Here are some actions we take to be responsible manufacturers:
Materials
Perhaps the most important component of any furniture is the material it uses. Most furniture – even those meant for nurseries – use a lot of plastics and similar materials. Natart uses only FSC certified wood. It is a designation meant for wood harvested from sustainably grown forests that are environmentally conscious, economically viable, and managed responsibly for social benefit.
Apart from FSC certified wood, Natart also uses non-toxic adhesives which do not produce harmful gases. By using water-based wood stains, we avoid harsh chemicals that can cause health issues. In addition, the packaging which your new crib comes in is recyclable. If you are worried about the materials that go into Natart’s furniture, rest assured we use safe materials and sustainable processes.
Construction
Natart also uses industry-leading processes when it comes to the construction of nursery furniture. Manufacturing of any kind is going to produce stress on the surrounding environment and our goal is to minimize the impact. For instance, Natart furniture uses a rolled on top base coat & electrostatically applied top-coat to reduce paint/stain overspray in the environment. This lowers the chances of manufacturing chemicals from leaching into the air or water.
Greenguard
Natart is also proud to bear the Greenguard Gold certification for all our nursery products. Our entire line is certified ensuring no product has the potential to harm your baby. Similar to the FSC certification, the Greenguard Gold is the highest standard available in the industry. A product bearing this certification is guaranteed to have low VOC emissions, whether immediately or days after manufacturing.
While the Greenguard certification is considered sufficient for furniture, Natart meets the more stringent requirements of Greenguard Gold. The latter is geared towards nurseries, schools, and other environments where children spend most of their time.
What does this mean for you as a parent? It means you don’t have to agonize over every single piece of furniture you buy. From cribs to mattresses to dressers, rest assured that you’re buying the best for your child.
Longevity
Yet another form of responsible manufacturing is the issue of longevity. We live in a world that insists and depends on disposable products. Whether it is fast fashion or upgrading technology, the emphasis is on short term convenience rather than long term sustainability. At Natart, we are committed to producing only the best quality products with a long shelf life.
From the materials used to the manufacturing process itself, Natart maintains quality standards. It ensures the longevity of our products. Consider cribs as an example. All our cribs are convertible which means they can adapt to your child’s growing needs. We design our products to last a long time, so you do not have to budget for replacing them in a few months.
Even if you have a second child, convertible cribs may be the better option. While some parents like to reuse the crib for a second child, what if your first is still using it as a daybed? Then you would need to buy another piece of furniture anyway. Convertible cribs that are built to last can grow with your child and build a lifetime of memories.
Responsible manufacturing means more than just good design or aesthetically pleasing furniture. Natart products use the best and safest materials, ensuring safety, quality, and longevity.
