As a parent, you do everything in your power to protect your children – from using the best sunblock to taking proper crib safety precautions. You may be surprised to learn that there’s a silent danger lurking in your nursery: dressers. Even well-made, heavy dressers can tip over, especially with small, curious children pulling on them. In fact, research shows that, on average, a child goes to the ER every 43 minutes as a result of a furniture tip-over and a lack of dresser safety precautions.
Here’s the good news: you can prevent tip-overs entirely and protect your little ones by choosing Natart’s safety-tested furniture. Here’s what you need to know.
How Natart Practices Dresser Safety & Prevents Tip-Overs
The best way you can prevent dresser tip-overs is to do your research and choose furniture that’s gone through extensive dresser safety testing and includes safety features. At Natart, we’re proud to take a comprehensive approach to safety so that you don’t have to. Our safety measures include the following.
1. The Tip-Over Test
All of our furniture goes through the 55-pound test. We place a 55-pound weight on the edge of the opened top drawer of the dresser. If the dresser doesn’t tip over, it passes the test.
2. Front Feet for Uneven Floors
We add feet to the front of every dresser. This makes the front slightly elevated to prevent tipping, which is especially helpful on uneven flooring.
3. Glides with Safety Locks
All dressers include glides with safety locks. This keeps the drawer from sliding out too far and causing the dresser to fall over. We test the glides with a performance test that includes 100,000 openings and a 75-pound weight inside the drawer to ensure they’re stable and dependable.
4. Factory-Installed Straps and Wall Anchors
All of our dressers that are 30” or taller come with straps and wall anchors. We add these safety features in our factory to ensure they’re properly attached and ready for you. That way, your child is safe even if they do decide to pull on drawers or climb on the dresser!
Tip-overs are a serious concern, but they’re also easily avoided. As long as you buy a dresser designed with safety in mind, you won’t have any problems. With dresser safety taken care of, you can focus on what matters most: raising your little ones.
