We take pride in our work at Natart, putting immense thought into all aspects of our North American-made furniture. That’s why we’re excited to open our doors and give you a look into how we work our magic behind the scenes. In this article, we’ll share details about our manufacturing facility, furniture certifications, and the team that makes it all happen.
Journey to Our Canadian Manufacturing Facility
The founders of Natart got started in their native country of Italy in 1988 but transferred the business to Quebec, Canada in 1995. Today, our manufacturing facility is tucked into a small, quiet village in the same province. We’re proud to say that Natart Juvenile is the largest manufacturer of baby furniture in North America – and it all comes to life in our facility.
Quebec is a gorgeous province, with expansive forests and numerous waterways. We find inspiration in our surroundings often, which also motivates us to protect the environment with the responsible production of our high-quality baby furniture. We make great efforts to source most of our components locally, allowing us to minimize our carbon footprint.
Our sustainability efforts also benefit our employees. We use a number of eco-friendly materials that are safer for our employees to handle, like non-toxic adhesives. By using rollers and electrostatics to apply base and top coats to our furniture, we also eliminate fumes from spraying into the environment. We have numerous cleanliness, safety, and organization measures to ensure that our employees enjoy a safe, comfortable place of work.
Greenguard Certification: A Mark of Excellence in Health and Sustainability
As part of our commitment to the health and safety of our customers and employees, all Natart furniture is Greenguard GOLD Certified. The Greenguard certification sets stringent requirements for extremely low VOCs (volatile organic compounds), as well as other harmful chemicals. VOCs and chemicals can highly impact air quality, leading to negative health effects, including everything from headaches to liver damage. This is why we put such emphasis on our work with the Greenguard lab, ensuring that our furniture is safe for your growing baby’s body, mind, and lungs.
We use a number of unique practices and materials to achieve our Greenguard Gold certification and align with sustainability standards. In addition to the practices mentioned above, we also recirculate 40,000 cubic feet of air in the facility each minute to ensure we produce our high-quality baby furniture in the cleanest, healthiest possible environment. There are over 200 hanging plants in the facility that absorb any potential small contaminants.
Some examples of our safer materials include:
- FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) Certified wood
- Veneered panels that are TSCA Title VI Compliant
- Water-based wood stains
Meet the Team: The Faces Behind the Furniture
Antonio and Michel De Bonis are the proud founders of Natart. The brothers are still involved today, leading 40 employees with a positive vision. Michel, in particular, is responsible for all designs, which he executes in-house. Ultimately, the brothers aim to maintain a calm, safe, and inspirational environment at Natart headquarters, ensuring that employees are given time to complete the very best work.
The team is also committed to quality and art. This is why many employees have gotten training at the Accredited School of Woodworking (ENME). This training provides employees with excellent craftsmanship skills – a critical talent in our field.
